Hope for Haiti

Haiti Infrastructure Devestated: The National Palace in Ruins.
The country of Haiti is devastated but the Haitian Christians are applying the Paul and Silas principle of praise to bring them out of their dilemma caused by the 7.6 earth quake that hit their country recently and the after shocks that brought further devastation.

The Haitians are like the Palm tree, a resilient nation. This tragedy bent them to almost breaking point with the loss of family members; limbs and worldly possessions. But like the Palm tree they were bent over but are springing up, a resilient people.

Dr. Hazel Hill joins a dance of Praise in the Victory Haiti Church
People still dig through the rubble of fallen buildings with their bare hands looking to recover their dead loved ones. One such lad we found just across the road from where Pastor Martin, our national leader, lives. He was trying to remove the fallen concrete and rubble to uncover his little sister, cousins and auntie, 6 in all. Their house had fallen with them inside and no one had been able to reach them. His eyes told the story of his pain, the kind of pain that should never be suffered by a young lad; a young teenager now alone in this world. Who can understand their pain but the Lord.

A young lad weeps over pictures of his family buried in the rubble.
Victory held services in the streets of Port au Prince where hundreds gathered every night to praise the Lord and hear the Word of God preached. Pastor Martin led the services with lively praise and worship, and just for a short period of time the people experienced a peace that passes understanding. The rains came and the winds blew during some of the services but still they worshiped with hands raised up, eyes closed and tears rolling down their velvety faces. They love Jesus and have their trust in Him.

Feeding programs and services were also held at the Cité Soleil, the largest slum area in Port au Prince. Once again the Christians raised their voices in praise and danced with all their might as they waited for the food to be served.

They were so hungry. I turned my face away as they clamored for the food and wished we could do more to help them. Jesus, see their need and bless them I prayed.

Dr. George Hill and Pastor Martin Masinde examine the damage to Pastor Martin's home in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Pastor Martin lives on the streets in Port au Prince to be near his congregation for support and encouragement, but his family live in a rented unit one hour outside Port au Prince. His plan is to purchase a small piece of land and build a small house for his family, wife Jacqueline and four children. Before the earth quake, Pastor Martin and his family rented a house in Port au Prince. The earthquake took out all the houses along his street except his rented house. The house next to his fell, but it did not fall on his house it fell the other way or it would have killed Pastor Martin and all his family who were home at the time. The kitchen did drop off the other side of his rented house and fell to the valley below. Grandma used to cook every day in that kitchen, but the day of the quake she was not in the kitchen. PTL.

streets even if they have homes that are damaged. They are afraid to sleep in their houses in case of another quake. The sewer, water supply and sanitation are all in need of restructuring. Disease is rampant and the smell of death is still in the air in some places as people still remain trapped under fallen buildings.

What can Victory do to help Haiti? That was the question that was on our

hearts as we arrived in Port au Prince after an arduous trip from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic airport, a 10 hour journey by bus.

After spending some days with Pastor Martin and his team we soon realized that we needed to build, or buy a building for the believers to have church. Meeting on the streets was not a long term option. After looking at several buildings we came to Pastor

Martin’s building of choice. A very nice building on a good sized lot with secure walls and a large sanctuary needing some repairs seemed to be God. We could all see how this building, with some TLC would house a church of over 600 people and could be filled several times each day as revival has broken out in Haiti and hundreds were being saved at the evening meetings on the streets. This would act as the Victory Churches of Haiti Head Quarters. The price? From $150,000.00 to $200,000.00 USA. This building had not been destroyed by the earth quake and has a good foundation and strong structure. This would help to facilitate the VBCI;

Church services; offices and day care for children.

The possibility of building an actual church building for the Victory Church in the slum is also in our thoughts. We own a plot of land there now and can buy other plots for $300.00 each. Perhaps shipping a Church in a Box is the answer for Cité Soleil.

All in all the trip to Haiti to minister and report back to our Victory Churches was a great success. Drs. George and Hazel Hill, California; Pastor Les

Your prayers and support make a difference!  On January 12, 2010, the nation of Haiti was rocked by a devastating earthquake which killed tens of thousands and left many more homeless and without resource.  Please continue to pray for this nation, as thousands of Haitians continue to struggle for food, water, and basic shelter.  Your support changes lives!

Haiti: Our Newest Victory Nation Now in Ruins!

Victory Family, now is our time to shine and to show acts of kindness to our bothers and sisters in Haiti.  All is lost there as dead bodies line the streets.  Our National Leader in Haiti, Pastor Martin Etienne, is among the missing.  We are asking for your prayers that he will be fine and contact us soon.
